Segment Routing is a label switch technology and is, in essence, the reimagining of MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching).
Why do we need Segment Routing? You want a distributed routed Label Network synchronised with the existing IGP, you got it! You want all policies managed by a centralised God box in the sky, no problem. You want a predictable, static network, with consistent paths, no problem. Sub 50ms failover everywhere for all services, of course!
